UHP: A Better Way to Fight Fires

UHP is as effective at heat absorption as a conventional 1 3/4” handline flowing at 150 GPM and uses up to 90%less water.

In today’s firefighting environment, every second counts. Fires are burning hotter and faster than ever, with a growing number of chemical signatures due to increased synthetic materials. This means you may have only a few minutes to bring a fire under control.

When fighting a fire, only the outer shell of a water droplet absorbs heat. Using conventional firefighting techniques, that means only 10 to 20% of each water droplet is being used, with the rest wasted or pooling on the ground. Because a UHP application reduces water droplets to a fraction of their original size, we can create a much more efficient solution. In a UHP application, we use a piston plunger pump to apply 1,450 PSI to the water, breaking down droplets to 1/64th their normal size. The smaller droplets are light enough to be drawn into the fire’s flow path, making water usage far more effective and efficient. And because we’re using less water, you can be more flexible and nimble in how you get water to the site of the blaze, often relying on smaller vehicles and UTVs, a huge advantage when nearby water sources are scarce or non-existent.
